The Alchemyst - Michael Scott, Erik Singer If you're looking for another book like Percy Jackson or The Red Pyramid or the 39 Clues, you'll probably like this one. Unless you're like me and although you LIKE those books, you don't really care to read the same books over and over and over. Reading "The Alchemyst" felt like I was re-reading any one of those other YA adventure novels about mythology and folklore and magic, which made it kind of boring, as if I knew exactly what was going to happen even before it did. The plot is really complex, with lots of twists and turns, while the characters are somewhat one-dimensional; we don't really learn a whole lot about them except that they MUST NOT LET THE VILLAINS WIN (over and over again, in different circumstances). It's not a horrible book, and has some entertainment value, but I won't be rushing out the read the sequel.
